St Tammany Library Alliance Statement Regarding St Tammany Library Millage Result

The people of St Tammany Parish have spoken—the library millage has passed! This victory proves that our community values access to knowledge, books, and public resources despite the relentless efforts of censors and extremists. But make no mistake—the fight is far from over. Now, it’s time for the Parish Council and Library Board to stop playing political games and do what’s right: protect free access to information and uphold the integrity of our libraries.

We are deeply grateful to every voter, advocate, and supporter who stood up for our libraries. Your voices ensured that St Tammany continues to have well-funded, accessible libraries for all. But funding alone isn’t enough. We must remain vigilant to ensure our libraries remain free from censorship, political interference, and those who seek to control what we can and cannot read.

Voters sent a clear and undeniable message: We believe in our libraries. The Parish Council must take note—this community demands leadership that protects intellectual freedom, stops caving to extremist pressure, and restores public trust in the Library Board.

The passage of this millage proves that censorship has no place in St Tammany. Despite efforts to spread misinformation and undermine our library system, the public overwhelmingly supported it. Now, it’s time for leadership that respects the First Amendment and upholds the independence of our libraries.

Winning the millage is only the first step. Now, we demand real change:

  1. Rescind censorship policies – Remove any and all policies that limit access to books based on political or ideological agendas.
  2. Appoint a Library Board that reflects the community – The board should be composed of members who truly value libraries, not those with a history of censorship and political meddling.
  3. Keep politics out of our libraries – The Parish Council must commit to protecting our library system from ideological attacks.

This victory is proof that the people of St Tammany stand with their libraries. But we cannot rest. Stay engaged. Stay vocal. The fight for intellectual freedom continues.
