Tell Your Parish Council

Take the Next Step to Stop Censorship

If you've already signed the petition and you are ready to take the next step in this cause, contact the St Tammany Parish Council and Parish President and tell them you support the libraries and oppose censorship. Below is the contact info for Mike Cooper, our Parish President, and the entire Parish Council. They have the authority to hire and fire our library board and Director.

Sharing why you care about this issue personally is always ideal but if you’re not sure what to say, here are some suggestions for you to tailor as you see fit:

My name is (insert name). I am writing to oppose all forms of censorship and commend our Parish library board and Director for maintaining a library collection that reflects the interests of everyone in our community. A small but very vocal group of people in our Parish are calling for our Library Board and Director to be fired for not banning books they don't personally agree with. This would be an egregious erosion of our first amendment freedoms and I do not support the Library Accountability Board ordinance they have proposed. Stand up for freedom by continuing to support our current library staff.

Thank you for your time,

Best,

(Your name)
